(Creating) Data that is too dirty for "AI" (media.ccc.de)

Community iconc/technology@lemmy.world by
lemmydividebyzero@reddthat.com

when datasets are scaled up to the volume of (partial) internet, together with the idea that scale will average out the noise, large dataset builders came up with a human-not-in-the-loop, cheaper-than-cheap-labor method to clean the datasets: heuristic filtering. Heuristics in this context are basically a set of rules came up by the engineers with their imagination and estimation to work best for their perspective of “cleaning”. Most datasets use heuristics adopted from existing ones, then add some extra filtering rules for specific characteristics of the datasets. I would like to invite you to have a taste together of these silent, anonymous yet upheld estimations and not-guaranteed rationalities in current sociotechnical artifacts, and on for whom these estimations are good-enough, as it will soon be part our technological infrastructures.

CVE-2026-20253: Splunk Pre-Auth RCE via PostgreSQL Sidecar (thecybersecguru.com)

Community iconc/cybersecurity@infosec.pub by
WPSteam@lemmy.world

CVE-2026-20253 is a critical Splunk Enterprise flaw where the PostgreSQL sidecar’s unauthenticated backup/restore API can be reached through Splunk Web, letting an attacker abuse pg_dump/pg_restore to pull a malicious database from attacker infrastructure, restore attacker-controlled SQL locally, write files as the Splunk user, and eventually overwrite a scheduled Python script for remote code execution. This all highlights that Splunk Enterprise on AWS is especially exposed by default, affected versions below 10.2.4 / 10.0.7 should be patched immediately, and the impact is severe because compromising Splunk means compromising a system that often stores logs, auth events, firewall data, EDR telemetry, and other sensitive enterprise visibility data.

Why do Democrat supporters keep forgetting atrocities committed by their leaders?

Whenever I talk to any Democrat supporters, they by-default cheer their Presidents and then I’ve to remind them of their leader’s illegal wars and war crimes. They condemn those acts and they go back to their cheerleading role - Why do they keep forgetting atrocities committed by their leaders? Why do they accept war criminals as their leader?

I want to run a shell script that might open my browser to a specific website. I don’t want the page to load when this happen. But I cannot switch off my internet access also (as I use the internet to remotely access another system at the same time). So I am planning to isolate the run time environment for the shell script.
