The Internet’s undersea backbone is slipping into the danger zone (arstechnica.com)

Community iconworld@quokk.au by

The fascinating thing about subsea cables and pipelines, but especially subsea cables, is not just that we are utterly dependent on them. They don’t sit only within countries’ territorial waters. They connect countries, so they are in international waters [where] countries don’t have jurisdiction. The oceans are a global commons, and that’s where cables live, and that’s why it’s so utterly important for countries and everybody using the oceans to take care around them so that they don’t get damaged.

Fridge hack costing millions and sparking fires stemmed from poor security (arstechnica.com)

Community iconcybersecurity@infosec.pub by
supersquirrel@lemmy.ca

Multiple security advisories and public research reports show that all three of the controller models reportedly hacked in the incident—sold by Danfoss of Denmark and Dixell and its parent company Copeland in the US—contained critical vulnerabilities that allow attackers to remotely log in to the devices with the same system rights as administrators. Until recently, Danfoss controllers, for instance, used a credential that changes each day. The password is generated by the publicly available firmware based on the date. A hacker who takes the time to analyze the code can do the same thing on any device that hasn’t received a recent update. Daily passwords are identical across models located in hundreds or thousands of stores.

I’m going to be away from home for a few weeks and would like to access my computer (LMDE) while I’m away. Remote desktop connection would be ideal, just file transfer would be acceptable.

Saxony-Anhalt Gov. Sven Schulze of the Christian Democratic Union criticized the initiative. He noted that the resolution did not mention Russian aggression, even though Russia shells Ukrainian cities daily. Schulze said the AfD and BSW wanted to deprive Ukraine of the ability to defend itself. The state government will decide how to proceed after further discussion.

Scammers Are Stealing Millions From Food Stamp Recipients. Congress Could Fix It — but Won’t. (propublica.org)

To hear the Trump administration tell it, the SNAP program is under siege by well-heeled recipients of food stamps. Vice President JD Vance, upon being named “Fraud Czar” this spring, said: “There are people who have Lamborghinis who currently receive SNAP benefits.” Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, whose agency oversees the program, regularly goes on TV and social media to allege that masses of SNAP recipients are scamming the system, driving Bentleys, Ferraris, Maseratis and, yes, Lamborghinis.

I built an open-source directory of 3,300+ AI agent tools across 32 categories (frameworks, coding agents, MCP servers, memory systems, RAG, evals…), all ranked by GitHub stars. A bot rescans trending sources every 5 hours, checks new repos against a quality bar (1,000+ stars, actively maintained), and prunes dead links automatically. Site: https://tayyabimam1.github.io/awesome-ai-agent-stack/ Repo: https://github.com/tayyabimam1/awesome-ai-agent-stack Free forever, open source. Feedback welcome!
